A desktop I’m finally happy with
April 5th, 2007 by masukomi

I’m rarely happy with my desktop image. Mizzy drew me one once and it didn’t end
up staying. Well, I’ve finally put together something I think will stay for a
while. It makes me happy every time I see it. I post it here because I think you might
enjoy making something similar, and maybe you’ll like this one for yourself.

Click it to get a 1600×1200 version. Just tell your desktop image control panel to center it if your screen is smaller than that.

Making your own is fairly simple. Flickr lets you mark images you find on their
site as favorites and then it
puts
little thumbnails of them together for you on your “favorites” page
. So,
surf around Flickr, mark interesting things as favorites and then just take
screenshots of the pages Flickr puts together for you. And cut and paste those
grids of images together in your favorite image editing app. Since the
background color is white it’s easy to select and replace with a color you like.
I chose that particular brown because it’s a nice calm background color that
happens to also be the default in Ubuntu, which I use at home and at work.
